What’s an empanada? Empanadas (em-pah-NAH-daz) are flaky, freshly baked turnovers filled with a variety of sweet or savory ingredients. Empanadas are the perfect snack, appetizer, meal, or dessert—with flavors that will please every taste. Empanadas are unassuming and elegant at the same time… great to serve at parties, business meetings, as appetizers or hors d’oeuvres, or as a full meal (just add a salad or a bowl of soup).
The empanada had its origin in the muaajanat—savory pastries introduced to Spain and Portugal during the Arabic occupation of the Iberian Peninsula. The Spanish introduced it to northern Mexico when they colonized Mexico, and empanadas were brought to Latin America by Spanish immigrants. In Buenos Aires, Argentina, you will find empanada cafes or take-outs on every block! Now, Nada but Empanadas is bringing these delicious, hand-held treats to Albuquerque!
